Canada Tourist Visa Biometrics 2026: What Applicants Need to Know
Canada Tourist Visa Biometrics 2026: What Applicants Need to Know
If you are planning to apply for a Canada Tourist Visa from India, one of the most important steps after submitting your application may be providing your biometrics — fingerprints and photograph.
Many applicants have questions such as:
“Biometrics ke baad visa confirm ho jata hai?”
“Biometrics appointment kab hoti hai?”
“Kya refused visa ke baad biometrics dobara deni padegi?”
Let's understand the process.
π¨π¦ What Are Biometrics?
Biometrics means your fingerprints and photograph collected by an authorized Visa Application Centre (VAC).
For most Canada Visitor Visa applicants, biometrics are required. IRCC states that applicants generally provide biometrics after submitting their application and receiving a Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL).
❌ Does Biometrics Mean Your Visa Is Approved?
No.
This is one of the biggest misconceptions among applicants.
Receiving a Biometric Instruction Letter or completing your biometrics does not mean that your Canada Tourist Visa has been approved.
Biometrics are simply one part of the application process. IRCC uses them as part of the assessment of your application. The final decision is made after the application is reviewed.
π Canada Tourist Visa Biometrics Process
The general process is:
Step 1 – Submit Your Application
Complete your Canada Visitor Visa application and submit the required documents and fees.
Step 2 – Receive Your Biometrics Instruction Letter
If biometrics are required, IRCC will send you a Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL).
Step 3 – Book Your VAC Appointment
After receiving the instruction letter, book an appointment at an authorized Visa Application Centre.
Step 4 – Give Fingerprints & Photograph
Visit the VAC on your appointment date and provide your fingerprints and photograph.
Step 5 – IRCC Processes Your Application
After biometrics are provided, IRCC continues processing the application. Additional documents or information may be requested if necessary.
Step 6 – Final Decision
IRCC will make a decision on your application.
If approved, you may receive instructions to submit your passport for visa issuance. If refused, IRCC provides the decision and refusal reasons.
⏳ How Long Do You Have to Give Biometrics?
When IRCC sends a Biometric Instruction Letter, applicants generally have 30 days to provide their biometrics. IRCC recommends completing this step as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary processing delays.
π How Long Are Canada Visa Biometrics Valid?
For eligible applicants, biometrics are generally valid for 10 years.
This means you may not need to provide biometrics again for another temporary resident application during that period, subject to IRCC rules.
π What If Your Previous Canada Visa Was Refused?
A previous refusal does not automatically mean you can never apply again.
Before submitting a new application, applicants should carefully review the previous refusal and determine whether the concerns can be addressed with genuine and updated information.
Also, don't assume that you automatically need to provide biometrics again. Check your current IRCC instructions and biometric validity before re-applying.
π What Should You Prepare Before Applying?
A Canada Tourist Visa application should be prepared according to your individual circumstances.
